Event invitation packages are always among our favorite projects to work on. There is nothing like a well-executed invitation to get people excited about your event. Recently we helped put to together a package for The Center for Infectious Disease Research’s 11th Annual Gala for Global Health. This fundraising event, held in Seattle, raises millions of dollars to battle infectious disease around the world each year.
Over 1,600 units needed to be printed and distributed in only five working days. Quick turnaround times are nothing new to us. In fact, our ability to deliver high quality prints within a short amount of time is one of our specialties.
This beautiful invitation consists of five different components:
• Outer envelope
• Inner wraparound invite with foil stamp
• Insert cards (three total per package)
• RSVP response envelope
• Round Foil Stamp stickers (to seal the outer envelope)
Both the invitation and the inserts were printed offset using spot color on our Komori press.
Printing the Invitation Package
It is important to make an impact right away with your intended audience. This envelope sets the tone for the rest of the invitation experience. It is standard A9 size (5 ¾” x 8 ¾”). The envelope stock is translucent. It allows for the black invitation on the inside to show though, creating a slightly diffused effect, and the foil stamp on the invite really “pops”.
The invitation, which is also an envelope of sorts, when folded is 5 ½” x 8 ½” and was printed on 16.5 Classic Crest paper stock, one side is black (outside) and the other is white (inside). A die cut created the desired envelope shape. The thickness of the paper required special attention to be given to the scoring rules so that the envelope would be the right size once folded — details make the difference! The words “You’re Cordially Invited” in fancy script font is foil stamped on the outside creating a wonderful eye-catching contrast. The word “Gala” is foil stamped on the inside as well.
A round foil adhesive label is used to seal the folded invitation shut.
The inserts (three total) are 5” x 7” and sit nicely stacked inside the invitation envelope. They were printed on both sides of the 11pt. Classic Crest black paper stock using only one sliver spot color, PMS 529. A double bump (printing an image area twice with the same ink color) was used for the image of the key note speaker and the silver boxes on the RSVP card. This ensured smooth and even ink coverage across those areas.
The silver RSVP response envelopes are standard A7 size (5 ¼” x 7 ¼”) and were placed underneath the stack of insert cards. They were digitally printed on our Xante press.
Putting It All Together
Once fully printed our hand bindery team did a fantastic job of assembling the piece together, making sure to follow the exact client specifications.
You can see that every detail of this elegant invitation package, from the design to the printing, was well thought out and executed. If you got this invitation in the mail, chances are you would be hard pressed to decline. The invitation worked as expected. The gala sold out in just a matter of days.
